Brief 4 - App design

I started to generate a quick app / mobile site design utilising the brand elements within the print collateral. I wanted to focus on the 14 genre icons to ensure a clean and balanced user interface. The user can simply press a specific genre to reveal the two films — each of which links to further information including the time of showing, trailers, ratings, reviews and so on.

Brief 4 - Other deliverables

I have started to print out further deliverables including the flyers, postcards, stickers, an updated ticket reel and smaller poster prints — really happy with how these have turned out so far, looking forward to collating everything I've done so far for the photography now.

& the yellow tote bags have arrived.

Brief 4 - Posters

I printed out several poster designs on a lightweight matte stock but added an extra 10mm border simply for aesthetics. I also produced a poster featuring all of the 14 icon designs which could also be used as promotional material for the event / festival.

Brief 4 - Name badge development

As an extension of the brief, I decided to devise some name badges which the press, staff and speakers could wear. Using the brand guidelines I set and the chosen colour palette, I devised several ideas —

Brief 4 - Test prints

Brief 4 - Final programme ready to print

Brief 4 - Programme test prints

I printed out a b&w mock-up of the Reel programme publication to check over for any grammatical errors, type-setting issues and print quality. Although fairly pleased with the outcome, there was still a few issues that need resolving — the spacing in regards to the page numbers need altering and I need something on the back of the publication (duplicate logo?).

Brief 4 - Final programme

The contents is displayed over 2 spreads — one with the icons / genres and the other organised by date in which the films are showed with the corresponding imagery. I hope to print this on a lightweight newsprint stock.

Brief 4 - Revised flyer artwork

For the flyers, I aim to produce a set of A6 designs featuring a different icon on one side on black with the rest of the icons on the reverse set on white — the following is the final artwork for print (icons set horizontally instead of vertically).

Brief 4 - Deliverables so far

Reel film festival —

Logo / identity
Tickets
Promotional posters
Flyers / hand-outs
Event programme / publication
Tote bags
Postcard prints (icons)
Website

For the tote bag, these could be handed to each visitor, containing the programme, poster, flyer, and some postcard prints using the icons I designed — a sort of gift / giveaway with details about the event.

Brief 4 - Main programme spreads

These are the main programme spreads for the Reel film festival publication — for some reason, I spent a good couple of hours ensuring no films overlapped in terms of showing time, despite this being a completely fictional event... makes it seem more real though in a way. The films are divided by genre, 2  films per page — a classic and a modern.

Brief 4 - Programme development

For the Reel film festival programme, I wanted to order through Newspaper Club. As this may not arrive in time, I will print the programme myself on newsprint stock to emulate the aesthetic. I began to generate layout concepts using an A4 format (A3 DPS), ensuring that I use the brand elements and the iconography I devised. For the content, I needed to look into film summaries and reviews to provide insight into the film itself which I scoured the internet for. (For some reason it hasn't exported the document as spreads).

Brief 4 - Collating content

For the fictional Reel event, I intend to advertise / showcase 2 films per each of the 14 genres — one from the past few years and another classic / critically acclaimed film to ensure diversity. I started to look into the selection of these films for the programme and promotional material.

Brief 4 - Flyer development

Using the same aesthetic as the posters, I began to generate some flyer designs to be distributed as promotional material. Similarly to the posters, I aimed to produce a range of designs, each with a different icon / genre design.

I used a 'scroll' effect to indicate which genre the icon represented and also to showcase the diversity of films on show in order to reinforce the concept of the festival.
