Brief 0 - Final publication

When I booked out the photography studio last week, I thought it would be fitting to photography my context publication — this would also allow me to show the final resolution to the designers that offered help with the content.

Brief 2 - Production

More production for the Rebekah Hill identity with revised business cards and swing tickets. From die cut logos, to black foil and now blind emboss — seems like I went through every print process possible but we decided to settle on this.

Triplexed with 2 heavy weight white card stock and lightweight yellow stock on reverse.

Brief 6 - Poster artwork

I began to devise some poster designs using the existing photography and alternate hues to represent each aspect of the course. I experimented with various layout formats — initially a 2:1 ratio format to emulate the yearbook layout and then vertical layouts for the sub-posters.

Brief 6 - Final layout

Based on the initial layout concepts and spreads I devised, Max created the final publication of all 17 DFGA students. We are still awaiting the imagery and content from a couple of students which we have now been informed that they should be sent our way soon (fortunately with a PDF delivery, problems like these are not vital to resolve immediately).

The layout is based on an interactive navigation, with users being able to click on a students name on the contents page which would take them to the relevant page. A subtle icon in the top left of every page would then take the user back to the contents page. The students name would also remain in the same place once clicked to their relevant section.

We still need to alter the colours but this needs to be discussed with Mike, the course tutor.

Brief 8 - Final invite artwork

Final artwork for the scratch off invite after various amends in regards to the copy —

Brief 8 - Email invites

Development of the e-mail invites using the same design aesthetic as the print and web adverts. Due to the lack of photographic imagery, the clients restrictions on a small file size were achievable. The private view invite has subtle changes in type to differentiate this from the general invitation (below).

Brief 4 - App design

I started to generate a quick app / mobile site design utilising the brand elements within the print collateral. I wanted to focus on the 14 genre icons to ensure a clean and balanced user interface. The user can simply press a specific genre to reveal the two films — each of which links to further information including the time of showing, trailers, ratings, reviews and so on.

Brief 8 - Fold out poster development

Using the previous design we pitched as the basis for the poster, we began to generate some initial designs using the copy provided. It went through a few minor alterations in terms of copy selection, placement and type setting but the general aesthetic was retained. The map was designed by Luke using the same colour palette and type treatment as all of the promotional material.

Once the maps were completed and cropped, these were then added to the fold-out poster. We have treated the two folds to separate the Vernon St content from the Blenheim Walk content. The strapline at the top was also changed from 'The best student art show in town.' to 'Leeds College of Art presents:'.

The copy was again altered and more visual landmarks were added to the map including Leeds City gallery, The Light and the national rail logo for the train station. We also added the key to the map inside the map itself to move it away from the top of the poster.

Brief 8 - Tower poster

Final A0 tower poster design replicating the aesthetic from the other promotional material

Brief 4 - Other deliverables

I have started to print out further deliverables including the flyers, postcards, stickers, an updated ticket reel and smaller poster prints — really happy with how these have turned out so far, looking forward to collating everything I've done so far for the photography now.

& the yellow tote bags have arrived.

Brief 4 - Posters

I printed out several poster designs on a lightweight matte stock but added an extra 10mm border simply for aesthetics. I also produced a poster featuring all of the 14 icon designs which could also be used as promotional material for the event / festival.

Brief 1 - Final publication

I haven't managed to blog much in regards to the publication as it has been an ongoing working process with the client. I produced a magazine for Nicole for her last module at university therefore we decided to retain the same aesthetic for this publication.

Nicole's project is centered around song titles from across the years — this ultimately informed the name, 'Era'. The type treatment on each cover photo needed to support the imagery and reflect the chosen song title.

Brief 2 - Letterhead development

Brief 1 - Mailer

For Nicole's envelope design, I used white foil on lightweight black stock to ensure brand consistency (monochrome colour palette). For the letterhead, I retained the same aesthetic from the CV and other brand material which included a duplicate version of the format of her contact details.

Brief 2 - Production

When printing out the yellow inserts, I noticed the odd couple of errors in terms of grammar — such as additional full stops or having inconsistency with the spacing and leading within the copy on the inside page.

Each of the lookbooks consists of 9 concertina pages — an absolute pain to cut and score and fold down but I'm really happy with the end result.

As the embossing went slightly wrong on the lookbook cover we decided to foil the cover as an alternative — again, it didn't come out exactly as I hoped but Rebekah was happy.
