Brief 8 - Presentation boards

Final presentation boards for the pitch showing the concept and its application through various materials (with the addition of the physical fold-out poster / flyer design). Ignore the absolute poor quality of the images, not too sure what happened.

Brief 8 - Outside signage

As we couldn't apply the scratch off concept to the exterior signage e.g. the ad tower posters, we decided to use the statement itself and for the outdoor brick feature (in front of the entrance) we could couple this with the statement, "This is just the beginning", to further reiterate the concept — plus, this would make use of the 4 sides of the block. We used similar copy to the initial poster designs / invites we created with the addition of the dates and times, but at the moment, it was just to show the concept.

Brief 8 - Fold out poster

As we wanted to extend the reveal of the "This is not the end" statement, we looked at ways of how this could translate to the fold out poster design. It was required to fold down from A2 to A5 so after various mock ups, tests and wasted paper, we found one we believed communicated the concept the best. Based on the format of the invites, we found we could have the word "END" on the folded down A5 which when opened, would reveal the entire statement, as shown below.

Brief 8 - Scratch off invite

We proposed to use a scratch off overprint within the invite. I found this tutorial (here) which outlined a simple process of how to create the scratch off material by hand — all you needed was metallic ink, washing up liquid and sticky-back plastic.

Brief 1 - CV and Letterhead

Based on my initial designs, these are the final CV and letterhead designs which I have run by Coley. She wants to print them on a heavy white stock to ensure a clean finish. I may even try to foil the logo to add extra depth to the standard documents.

Brief 8 - Designs

Me and Luke set to work on the development of the designs for the end of year show pitch material. The marketing department wanted to see examples of how the concept would work throughout but particularly the invite and fold out poster. I started to generate initial ideas for a poster to see how this would adapt and translate to other material — focusing moreso on the actual concept and its application.

After reviewing the 'crossed-out-word' ideas, Luke had the idea of using scratch off print which would reveal the reveal phrase and change all meaning of the statement. We played around with the idea of "This is (not) the end" and the word "not" being revealed once the print is scratched off. We also looked at how this word could be 'revealed' through a perforation or covered rubber band. (Some contextual references here).

Brief 0 - Print

Was only able to print half of the inners due to print slot times but will able to get the rest printed text week (works out great as I'm still yet to source images for the final 2 studios). Crop marks are still intact until I print the rest of the publication and am ready to bind.

Brief 0 - Final publication

Final context publication minus the content for 2 studios as I am just awaiting more hi-res imagery.

Brief 8 - EOYS pitch

As me and Luke are setting up a studio when we leave university, we decided to make use of any opportunity available to us so we decided to enter the End of Year Show pitch. We explored a few concepts including —

"We are open" — Using classic open signs and playing on the 'we are' brand concept
"This is not the end"
"This is just the beginning"
"Behind the scenes"
"The end is not the end"

Brief 6 - Photo editing

Through Photoshop, we started to edit the photographs — looking at increasing the saturation to create a more vivid colour palette (as this will ultimately be displayed on screen). I also removed the white threads though we will look at whether we could keep these in to further enhance the 'process' concept.

Edited (with the second, I blurred out some of the shapes to create a depth of field) —

We started to explore other colour palettes which we could use within the other title pages (this is a proposed set up for games). Simply by changing the hue we could look at other potential colourways.

Max also had the idea of masking DFGA over the photograph. The colours will inevitably change for the final design as we could potentially have each letter representing the corresponding title page (different shapes and colour palettes). For the final photo, this could potentially be achieved by placing a stencil infront of the lens.

Brief 6 - Photography set up

We set up a mock up studio in Luke's bedroom to photograph the shapes suspended from the ceiling. We used contrasting stock to the orange shapes to create a more vivid aesthetic. We just used thread to suspend them and masking tape to attach as we intend to edit the photographs within Photoshop.

We then altered the white balance which completely changed the outcome — the colours appeared much more vivid, especially against the blue background. These will still need more post-production to ensure vivid colours but it was interesting to see it all coming together.
